Yogyakarta, Indonesia — November 8, 2024 — Gadjah Mada Robotic Team proudly participated in the Faculty of Engineering Research Exhibition 2024, held to provide insights into the latest research achievements from the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). This event served as a platform to engage the UGM academic community, industrial partners, and the general public in understanding and exploring innovative research outputs. Additionally, it aimed to foster collaborations and applications within the industry.

The exhibition took place in the main hall of the ERIC (Engineering Research and Innovation Center) Building, 1st Floor, where the Gadjah Mada Robotics Team displayed two of its robots: Orca Robot and Altair Robot. Orca is a robot that focuses on technology development and design innovation for underwater autonomous robots. The team competed in a new branch of KRI that was released in KRI 2023, namely KRBAI (Indonesian Underwater Robot Contest). The competing robot is the Autonomous Underwater Robot (AUR), while Altair, a humanoid robot developed for the Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI), competes in the Indonesian Humanoid Soccer Robot Contest (KRSBI-H) division. Altair is 40-90 cm tall, with a human-like structure that allows it to perform soccer-related actions such as searching for the ball, following the movement of the ball, and kicking.

“This exhibition provides benefits in introducing the Altair Robot and Orca Robot to the UGM academic community, Engineering Fair participants, and the general public. Through this opportunity, visitors can see firsthand the technology owned by the two robots, ask questions interactively to the development team, and understand the workings and innovations applied to each robot,” said Jatmika Farandy Salim, Captain of the robot team Alfatih. “Thus, this exhibition becomes a means of education as well as inspiration for visitors to get to know more about the development of robotics technology at UGM,”

The two-day exhibition started on November 8 as the first day of the exhibition, which featured 17 tenant booths with nine research products from the student community including GMRT as well as UGM downstream products and faculty-led research. The event took place at the ERIC (Engineering Research and Innovation Center) Building, where the FT UGM academic community and the general public were present to witness UGM’s progress in engineering.

Day 2 marked the final day of the exhibition, held in conjunction with the Teknik Fair. Teknik fair is an open house event by the BEM KMFT UGM to introduce the Faculty of Engineering UGM to high school students, that includes an expo, departmental tours, and a talk show. Teknik Fair attracted high school students who toured the ERIC building to view research projects from various departments, including GMRT’s robotics displays. This exhibition was part of the Teknik Fair’s departmental tour, providing attendees with a hands-on look at UGM’s cutting-edge research and community innovations.

The Faculty of Engineering 2024 Research Exhibition facilitated a significant exchange of ideas between researchers, industry professionals, and students, highlighting UGM’s role in contributing to Indonesia’s technological advancement.

External Visitation: Gadjah Mada Robotic Team and Gama Force Build Synergy With Soedirman Robotic Team

Yogyakarta, Indonesia — October 26th, 2024 Gadjah Mada Robotic Team (GMRT), in collaboration with GAMAFORCE, warmly welcomed a visit from our colleagues Soedirman Robotic Team (SRT) Unsoed at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences building. This visit was an invaluable opportunity for the three teams to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and build friendships in the spirit of advancing robotics innovation and fostering a competitive and supportive atmosphere within the Indonesian robotics community.

The event began with opening remarks from each team leader, which set the tone for an inspiring day. After introductions, representatives from GMRT, GAMAFORCE and SRT each gave a presentation introducing the team’s activities and main tasks and functions, showcasing their regional, national and international achievements, current projects and work plans. The presentations provided a glimpse of the main activities undertaken by each team so that the audience could understand the team’s vision, mission, and contribution to the development of technology including robotics. In addition, the presentation also showcased the team’s achievements at regional, national, and international levels to build credibility and demonstrate a solid track record in competition. A Focus Group Discussion (FGD) session then allowed for a more in-depth exchange of ideas. Team members discussed important topics, including experience sharing and interactive discussions between teams on the challenges they faced in various aspects, both before and during the competition, as well as strategies to overcome common challenges in technology development. This open dialog provided valuable insights for all three teams and fostered a spirit of collaboration. The external visit ended with a game session that energized the participants and strengthened the bonds formed during the visit.

Reflecting on the visit, team members expressed optimism about the potential impact of this collaboration. “By sharing our challenges and successes, we believe we can support each other and advance together toward a brighter future for robotics in Indonesia.”  said Rahul Ghulam, External Manager from GMRT.

The visit was an important milestone, as each team aimed to utilize their collective expertise and passion for robotics to inspire progress in the field. We exchanged experiences and insights, from research development to field practice during competitions both domestically and abroad, while sharing stories of the challenges and successes faced by each team. Going forward, the team’s plan is to explore more avenues for collaboration and continue to foster unity for technological innovation across the country. We hope this visit marks the beginning of meaningful synergies, bringing benefits to all members and inspiring steps towards greater progress.
